Boght an Onan generator with the Continental f163 engine on it and it promply spewed its oil all over the ground and seized (not sure what caused it but moving on) was wondering of a source for an engine and what engines might possibly interchange. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Also, where would I go about getting parts and advice on converting to propane and is there a low oil shut off available so when it empties in the middle of the night I don't go through this again?

Probably the easiest engine to interchange would be the F-162 Continental. The F-163 replaced the F-162 . Do you know what Purphy shut off controls are? A lot of F-162 engines that were in fork lifts were on propane.

I think that is a typo, it should be "Murphy" controls. See the link.

Sorry - upon further inspection, my engine is an f162. As far as Purphy shut offs go, I've never heard of them. Any idea where I might be able to find more information on them? Thanks

You should be able to discuss Murphy controls with any oilfield supply house as a lot of engines in the oil field use them.
