Just aquired one of these old engines, cleaned carb & tank out, greased the rockers, fresh fuel, no spark, found points, cleaned them, now sparking, second crank & off she went with me somewhere amongst the cloud of smoke

Now the tricky bit, no instructions so I'm presuming the big knurled knob on top of the intake manifold is a mixture control, clockwise for rich (choke) and after firing turn lean untill tries to die and now a touch richer. The speed appears to be governed via the spring loaded rod and I again presume the speed should be set to a fast tickover.

Any help greatly appreciated.

PS Good fun aren't they !

You will find the Lister D type to be a very good engine to start off with. they are very prolific and can turn up almost anywhere. I have 3 of these engines and currently 2 are in running order.Apart from the spark plugs fouling up they will start up very easily and run approximately 2 days to a tank of petrol.Try and get hold of a copyu of Stationary Engine magazine published monthly by Kelsey and you will find all the contacts, clubs, information, parts and advice you will ever need. Good Luck! John V. in Enfield.

Nigel -

Try posting the same information on www.smokstak.com. It's a site dedicated to stationary engines, and there are several regular posters from your side of the pond...and yes, they are a lot of fun!
