Have an Old Troy-Built tiller with a 5hp B&S engine. Has sat for about 2 years without the engine being started. Of course now that I need it, it won't start.

Pulled spark-plug from cylinder head. Looks OK. Re-attached to wire, grounded plug, turned engine over several times, can't see spark.

Removed fly wheel, removed cover to condenser and points. Took very fine emory paper and "touched" up points. Still no spark.

What's next???? Don't do this often and not very experienced but am willing to try and take advice!

Thanks in advance!

There are magnets around the flywheel, I would take sandpaper and shine them up. You might have an engine that does not have a set of points and condenser. If you do I would make sure the points shine. If they don't shine they will not work. I just had an engine that had spark but would not run. I removed the points and shined them up, reinstalled to correct gap and the engine runs. The engine just did not have good enough spark. If it still does not run then I might try a condenser.

Thanks JOB and olelon

Good advice. Cleaned fly wheel magnets and am going to invest in new condenser, points, and plug. Will let you know how I make out.

Thanks
