I have just aquired this engine and I am trying to figure it out and get it running. I have checked and it is not getting any fire to the plug I traced it back to the mag on the side. I open the cover and the points look clean. I am lost what do I do from here?

This is the first one of these I have owned I have wanted to play with one for a long time. I realize it is not an old one and not collectble but I would like to get it running any way for the heck of it. I got it at the right price and I figure I might be able to learn some thing from it.

I am in Ft. Worth Texas aera if any body wants to know.

Hello Jim,

Witte 98 engines had as standard equipment,a heavy duty low tension magneto. this system requires a point gap of .014/.016 and a sparkplug gap of .023/.028 MAX. I also suggest checking the primary and secondary res. of the coil.

Just to let you know the running spark of the 98 Witte engine should be no more than 30deg. BTDC.

The above information is for factory installed low tension ignition systems.

Go to Google search engine and type in Witte Engines click on Harry's old time engines and you will see it. He may help you. Good luck. Jim
