I recently picked up a power reel mower. It's a Craftsman model # 536-81740-YB4. The engine is an Eager 1 model # 143 243 042 or a Tecumseh LAV30-30527K. The engine runs only with the choke on and I would like to tune it as best I can. It smokes for awhile once you start it. It doesn't seem to run at its peak even at full throttle. I plan on performing some engine work, depending on its complexity.I'd like to know the exact replacement of the spart plug and it's gap. Since it's self propelled, the tires are pretty well bare due to their age. I'm lookng for replacements. I'd like to set the linkage correclty for the self propelled system. I'm wondering if the propulsation mechanism needs to be lube and if so where. Any leads/advice is greatly appreciated.

Tecumsehs are NOTORIOUS for passages in the carburetor getting gummed up when they sit with old gas for any length of time at all.

For GOOD tecumseh advice, check out the forum at: PERR.COM.

A REAL auto parts store should have a Autolite, AC or Champion spark plug catalog with an outdoor power equipment section that will list spark plugs by engine application.
