Working on a model HM100 Tecumseh powering a generator. It had a burnt exhaust valve and had been left sitting with the old gas and had gotten water in the fuel tank and carburetor. Ground and set clearences on valves and replaced the badly damaged non adjustable carburetor with an adjustable one. Engine starts and runs very good, handles the full load well also, but now has a problem. It had a fitting in to the original carburetor that the breather vent pipe plugged into and the replacement carburetor on it does not have a place to hook the breather pipe to. I left the vent open to the athmosphere and as it runs it begins to have a small but steady oily vaspor and droplets coming out of the breather pipe. It almost needs a catch tank like the go-kart guys run. Could this be because the line is not tied into the carburetor air intake stream? Don't recall having this problem with it before this. Did not have to add but a very small amount of oil when running it under a load before. Any one have any answers on this one?? Gene Davis

Thanks for the suggestions JT. Solved the problem. After looking at the conversion job, I concluded that the breather line to the original carb was higher than the drain holes in the breather baffle, and then I connected my line to the air filter housing with a brass fitting that I placed above the level of the breather tube and that has solved the problem. Kinda simple after looking at it and thinking about it. Thanks again!! Gene

Gene,
You need to keep one thing in mind about an interanl combustion engine. They run with a vacumn in the crankcase, when you loose this vacumn, it will start puttin oil out of the breather. Now, if the breather is a little gummed up, it could be stuck open, and will also do this. As for loosing crankcase vacumn, check your dipsick, any gaskets, seals, etc. Anywhere you can loose it, it will escape. good luck.
Jim
