I have a JD 1.5 hp E engine that I would like to set up on a cart to run a fan for those hot tractor show days. An 18" or so fan would be plenty and I would like to hook it up to a pully/belt drive. Has anyone seen anything like this? Have any pics? Right now I'm just kicking it around, fishing for ideas. I know some of you guys have been to a lot more hows than I have and have probably seen something along these lines. I have been using one of those little Honda gensets to run an electric fan but using the E engine would be neat. What do you think?

Should work fine as long as you don't mind the air from the fan pulsating a bit as the engine fires up and slows down. Or you could put a tensioner pulley on it so that the rpms stay low enough for the engine fire every time. Defeats the joy of the hit and miss effect, but smooths out the flow of air. I have seen several Maytag motors set up this way.

The pulsating would be fine, I want to keep that hit n miss sound. I just have to work out how to rig it all up and keep it portable so that I can roll it around at the shows. I was thinking maybe set it up on a heavy duty two wheeler (hand truck). That"s how I have my mini genset/fan set up now and it works pretty good, course the E engine would be alot heavier.

Some of the ones I have seen use a squirrel cage fan from a furnace. It lines up with the pulley on the engine and they can put shutters on the output to direct the air flow. I have one that I am going to try and hook up to my Maytag one of these days. Now it is too easy to just plug it into an electric outlet.
