You fellows wanting a quarter inch die grinder but don't want to fork over that Franklin that they usually cost? Heres a way out. The Flea markets are starting to carry a greenish/blue one made in (you guessed it) and they're less than 20 dollars. I bought one and theres a bunch of good ones already out in the shop. Came with two wrenches, spare set of brushes and 5 mounted point stones. Put a stone in it and fired it up and it vibrated like 7734. Started up bench grinder and held stone against it momentarily (to dress it) and it leveled right out. The others were okay. I guarantee you that a year from now they won't be that cheap. Those people aren't dummies. Get'em while they're hot! Fred

As a full time diesel mechanic i've bought and gone through a lot of air tools expensive and cheapies.I have many cheap ones that have or are lasting as long as the big dollar ones.Lots of oil and clean air seems to be the secret. For a cheap deal on a 1/4" die grinder try Walmart as they carry the Coleman line of air tools and at $19 CDN with warranty you cant go wrong.Mines 2 years old and still going strong!

I bought a couple of the 4 inch grinders and they were JUNK. One died within a week and the second shook like a bandit and the switch only works sometimes. The quality is extremely poor. Good luck! Joe-

Maybe thats why the 4 inch electric grinders are showing up on EBAY in CASE lots... they are Disposeable! Seems they are also showing up in the big tractor dealer auctions and selling for about $20.00 apeice. I've had nothing but good luck with the el-cheapo die grinders, I have used them for whiz wheeling gaskets on lots of stuff. Considering what the guys with the white trucks want for ONE , it wouldn't be a bad thing to buy 4 or 5 of them just to keep from having to change wheels.. But I wouldn't touch an import air ratchet or 3/8 impact gun with a ten foot pole. They haven't got them down to any standard of strength or reliability at all. Same for 1/4 inch air ratchets. I bought a Matco after my second one from Walmart died an ugly death in a week..

Glad you found that works, but I've found that imported tools will not hold up over the long run. Buy American, pay a little more and buy once.

Been lurking around...this is a good forum here. However, feel compelled to put out my 2 cents worth on quality of foreign vs. American air tools. Years ago, business I worked for handled two lines of air tools...Chicago Pneumatic and Uryu (Japonese made). There was absolutely no question that the Uryu was the better made tool...and easier to repair in the customers tire shop than the CP's. Cheaper to purchase, too. Not even sure anymore if that particular brand is still around, but it sure did make a believer out of me to look for quality first and country of manufacturer second.

Rick, we know there are some foreign tools out there that are quality made and some that aren't worth bringing home, like the posts above. My advise to this fellow is, he should have taken those tools back and got a refund. Then he should have posted the name of the manufacturer so the rest of us wouldn't purchase them. (if he could find it or spell it :-)) If enough of us done that, the bad quality tools would stop leaving the manufacturer. On the air tool thing ,even a cheap one will last a good bit longer if it is oiled before use and isn't left laying around on the floor to get dust and grit in the air inlet. Even a CP or IR won't last as long under those conditions. Does someone need to put a foreign tool buyers board online and list the good and the bad? Maybe right in with the foreign tractor buyers board. (grin)

Fred...got no real argument with what you said...especially agree with keeping stuff cleaned and oiled. My comments based on personal observations of tire shops that were running both brands in the same environment. CP just didn't hold up like you would expect it to. Been nearly 20 years since I was in that line of work...things change with time.
