Mower ran fine until engine locked up. I since installed new rods, rings etc and now with engine on chassis or on bench with battery connected I cannot get any fire to plugs. I did not change or replace any electrical items even had the solid state coil checked and operation was o.k. Should I be able to get spark to plug even on bench and hooked up to battery? need any info for troubleshooting for the problem. Need it quick my lawn is growing rapidly. Thank you in advance

To:
just an idiot and Ray,

I did all you mentioned and now I have the engine on my work bench, hooked up to a battery and still cannot get any spark, However I had the coil checked, they said it was good, but when I came home and checked the black wire that goes from the coil to the post on engine block, it showed a ground even when it was disconnected....should this wire show a ground? thanks to you both for your help so far....need more.

Bill

Bill, Just a thought, if the motor locked up while
it was running, could it be the flywheel key??

Tom

you should have spark if you turn it over fast enough. Check gap on coil.check that the wires for on off key is in the on position, check that there is no pinched wires any place.

Also check the wiring going to the "safety" switches. One or more of them may have the ignition grounded out.
