My son and I were under the truck and fixing something. There was a bolt about 3/8in thick that we couldn't grind off or cut off with a dremel or hack saw. A chisel was out as the metal it was holding would distort.

Then my son thought maybe one of those mini propane/oxygen kits that come with the one quart bottles might be able to cut the bolt. They come with the one torch without fittings. The package claims it can cut as well as weld. They go for about 50 to 60$.

I didn't buy it as I didn't want to spend money for something that doesn't work.

Can you blow out a bolt with one of these or would the bolt just turn red.? What CAN this thing really do.?

I had one of those OX/propane setup and they arent worth anything. Maybe a quick brazing job. If you read on the OX bottle it says it only last for 10 or 12 minuets and they cost $8-$12. It will make your bolt red and then run out of gas. Walk away from it as fast as you can. Hold out for a real Ox/Acetylene setup. The little short 2ft high tanks are handy for ocasional 'round the house/shop jobs, are easy to transport and only cost $14-$18 to fill.

I had one of those sets a long time ago. About all it was really good for was brazing. While you can weld with one, the tanks are really expensive. They may be able to melt through a part, but not having a seperate cutting oxygen valve, they won't do anything like a true oxy-acetylene cutting torch will.
