An angle grinder would come in handy to sharpen the blades on my Woods bush hog without taking them off. I've never used one in my life and wonder if it's worth it for me to get one. What other uses do you fellas use it for?

I have several of these, each with a different "wheel" on them. Bought some for $8.00 each new at flea market. Like to buy USA most of the time, but this was too good to pass up. The gear box of the Chinese models is usually skimpy on grease- I immediately filled mine with wheel bearing grease. One burned out quickly, the others have proved durable. Harbor Frieght has them for about $20.00.

I have 3 of the Harbor Freight grinders and they are great. I have a different wheel on each one. They do more work faster than the first grinder that I bought several years ago which is a $100 Makita.

Most of the time the Makita sits on the bench while I use a "GOOD" grinder.

Just my 2-cents worth.

Let's see...I've got six, no seven! Of course there are regular grindng wheels, cutoff wheels, flex cutoff/grinding wheels, 87,000 different kinds of wire brushes, flap disc, sanding disks, Yada, Yada, Yada.....

Metabo may well be the best, but Milwaukee, DeWalt, etc., even Crwaftsman are all OK for what you'll use it for. Just buy the best one you can find on sale.

Whatever you do, make sure you get one with the paddle swith or one that when you let it go it stops running. Those with the locking trigger will eat you alive with a wire wheel tangled in the crotch of your overhauls before you can get it shut off.

Jim: I bought a 4-1/2" Makita a few years ago. One of the handiest tools I have. You will find a lot of uses for it.

Don't know how anyone could get by without one in just about any type of shop work. Required equipment if you weld. And will do wonders on your bush hog, cicle mowers or what have you.

Hi Jim,

I got one of those a couple of years ago and now I wonder how I ever got along without it! If you do any metal work at all you should have one for general portable grinding. You can also get both cup and flat wire brushes for them that do a great job on loose rust removal, etc.

Just, be careful with them, particularly when using with wire wheels, they have no mercy when it comes to skin & body parts. Dave F.

If you plan on doing very much wire brushing, get a leather apron, and wear it. The wire bristles will scoot along the leather, where as the wires will grab a hold on any type of fabric. see above note on paddle (dead man) switch. You can't let go of one fast enough when it tries to eat your shirt. Go ahead and get a grinder, you will use it much more than you think. Please buy and use safety glasses, too!
