I have a 6-volt timing light that I will be using on a positive ground system. Do I need to be concerned about polarity?

You can get self powered lights now that wouldnt care what they were hooked to.

Bill - Only concern is that the timing light's power supply is connected with the proper polarity. Easiest way is to connect the power leads directly to the battery, making sure the positive lead (it's usually the red one) is on the battery "+" post.

Or if the power leads won't reach to the battery, for a positive ground system connect the light's positive (red) power lead to the tractor ground and the negative (black) lead to the hot side of the starter switch.

My 6V timing light connects inline between the distributor and spark plug. No connection is made to the primary electrical system; thus the polarity is immaterial.
