if you lay the sickle on edge on a piece of railroad iorn you can whack the sections right off. I've got so they come with 1 or 2 hits. Then just get yourself a rivet set. Anybody who knows anything ought to know what you mean.
By the way I have one of those rivet tools. It is a contraption with a big lever, looks like it's harly been used. I sure trade it to you.

Think the other guys are talking about a tool that replaces individual knife sections while they're still on the combine/mower; don't know if that's what you're looking for. If you're looking for something to replace all the sections with the knife out of the machine, I recommend a Johnson Sickle Servicer; used one for years before going to bolt-on sections. Johnson has a web site with information/dealers, etc.....

I have one I'll sell ya cheap. I used it for about 3 sections, got disgusted and went back to a grinder and a ball pein hammer. Faster, easier on the vocabulary.

I have two of them. They are red, and you can remove the rivets on one side and on the other, set the rivets on the new sections. Both have the pin broke off that removes the rivets. I guess this must be the weak part of the tool. The rivet setter works great. Tried replacing the pin on the removal side with the end of a drill bit but that broke too.. Has anyone else had this problem?

Dick

Replacement pins are about $3 at tractor dealers, etc. Always a good idea to carry a few in the toolbox. Went through a few each year with the haybine, swather, and combine. They break if you don't tighten the knurled bolt enough (like with a pipe wrench). Slight twist will break them because they are so hard. Cure:DISCBINE!!

Thanks for the advice JMS/MN..

Any idea where I could order some of these pins? Here I haven't found any, so if you know of a site where I could order some, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Dick

They are available at most tractor dealers, parts supply companies, farm supply stores, etc. One side removesw the rivets, other side installs the new one. Well worth the price.
