1st time HVLP Sprayed today...some questions...

I sprayed with an HVLP gun today (first time ever) and used the filter set-up and everything worked fine. I have some questions: Looking at my first attempt, and not having a decent set of instructions with the gun I noted a fair of amount of spotting in the paint...as it hit the part being painted. For the most part it smoothed out...but what can I do to improve the quality of the spray? Is the splotchy paint too much air pressure (I set it at about 30) or not enough air pressure? Is there too much paint coming from the tip? Is the tip adjustable? I have two adjusting knobs. Form what I can tell one sets limits on how far I can depress the trigger...adjusting air flow I think? or paint? ? the other seems to narrow or broaden the spray pattern. Can you help me on these questions? Next set: the paint on the earlier pieces is rough...not smooth. What can I do to smooth the paint out? I was also painting other items close by, and wondering if the rough texture was caused by overspray? I know these are stupid-butt- (as-) questions...but I am learning the hard way, and can use some insight from experienced HVLP users. thanks!

Could be water in air. See post "Compr. and filters....help? water in lines" from db. 7:03 am, 8/02/00. It is on page 4.

tm, I looked up the Finishline HVLP Gravity Feed spray gun. It recomends 23 psi [seems low]at gun inlet. It did not give nozzel size. Did you use same brand paint and reducer ? Did you use the correct reducer for the humidity today ? Was paint mixed to proper ratio ? Did you give enough time to flash off between coats ? [I sometimes hang a note up to remind meself to give it enough time] Your adjustments should be for fan width and amount of paint from cup. Sorry for all the questions. stR

tm, 23 psi @ 11.4 cfm is correct. Says it comes with 1.6 and 1.8 needle. sammy the RED

Sharpe was supposed to produce a video on the proper use of HVLP systems, does anybody know about this?
