Was wondering what kind of oil my old Western hyd. plow lift should have in it. It looks like auto trans fluid in it now but it's way low. Should I stick with the auto trans fluid or what?
Thank you.

I live by duluth, and it gets cooolllld. My meyers plow used to freeze up with meyers blue plow oil..and it seemed to always happen when i needed to use it...Well i said heck with it, cause meyers oil is expensive...so i tried hy'tran, figured i had nothin to lose...that was about 6 years ago..hasn't froze up, and cylinders work just fine...Has anyone else, had freeze up problems, like this?

They came with ATF in them, we finally changed the one we had over to Meyer blue fluid since we had three Meyers and the fluid stayed thinner at -40 temps. I sure am glad to be out of ND for this winter. Your choice, but the Meyer blue is formulated for the extreme cold temps and we had less leaks with the meyer fluid.

OH, by the way, Meyer oil won't fit in a Western plow.---- :-) ---deadeye

I use Dexron ATF in the four plows I service in my area. Change it out every fall I think about two quarts or so.

I just bout an e-47 power unit and when I took what looked like the place to fill it ( a bolt on the top of the tankunit) I find a steel something in the way so I can not pour anything in or see how much is there.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

I have been wooking on snow plows for 12 years . The fill hole looks like a small nut on top of a large bolt it taks a 9/16 socket to take it off

Trans fluid is ok. There is one other thing that you should do. Where the cables come in to the lift, make sure that you take the covers off and fill with gun grease. The reason being, if you ever get water or snow in under those cover and it freezes in there when you are out plowing, you have a fun time.---deadeye
