I have a retired uncle who has a Homelite 360 chainsaw he wants to sell. He used it very little, trimmed fence lines ect. It runs well and looks like new. I am wondering what it would be worth, and are parts avaiable for this saw? I would be using the saw for light jobs like trimming and storm cleanup ect. Anyone have any thoughts on this saw?

I fried one of those in the 80's, the second one had about 3/8" crank endplay one day and the log cutting was over for the day, we hotfooted over to the Stihl dealer and got 150 trade in on it for a new 038 Super. The 360 is beer cans by now, still got the Super. I would find a more modern saw with better reliability and less weight, considering I have recently seen the 360's sell at auctions for $20-$50

is this the uncle that you got the nice birthday gifts from when you were a kid??? 200 bucks, if it just another saw 100 dollars.. no, look at the bar & chain, that alone might be worth has much as the saw, if ya don't have a saw at least you know this saws background,, 360's were not bad saws, just don't turn the high jet in to far, adjust the high rpm's with a meter

I've got a 360 with a brand new bar and chain ($60)I'll give you. I just have to go out in the woods and find it.

For some reason the chain would never stay tight. The last time I used it, the chain came off and hit me in the leg. Luckily I didn't get hurt, but I threw that saw as far as I could throw it and it's been there ever since.

360's are old saws, not worth over $25 at an auction. Parts are probably going to cost more than it's worth. Spend your money on a newer, better saw and you won't be sorry.

Good shape 360's are selling for $100-150 on ebay. Parts are spendy. My 360 has the same chain tension problem as Jailkeeper's with a 20" bar, 16" bar hangs in there ok.

Three years ago I bought a new Stihl 029, piece of junk had more time in the truck riding to and from the dealer's than it had sawing. 360 was still my main saw.

Bought a new Husqvarna 346xp last week. Gonna see how that goes. 360 still plugging away.

The new Homelite line from the '70s (that the 360 was part of) were generally very reliable saws. Many are still in use and fetch high prices online. Only weak spot is a carb boot that's prone to rotting.

I have had a 360 Homelite for a good 20 years and really like the saw but am having trouble finding the CARB BOOT. I have checked with JD dealer and Homelite dealer. Am told the boot is not available. Anyone know of a supplier??

They're always up on eBay, and Bill Walcott at walcott@oz-online.net probably still has a few. Tell him John in MA sent you.

You're right, they were reliable saws. I just couldn't keep the dang chain on mine tight. And it had the carb boot replaced like you mentioned.

I've got a Stihl 025 now, gave $90 for it at an auction. It's not as heavy as the 360 and I think it's a lot better saw than the 360 ever thought of being.

I haven't heard of any regular chain problems with the 360, so something was wrong with yours. You still see these things in saw shops for tuneups. Usually looking like they've been through a war.

The 025 is a good modern consumer saw, but I personally wouldn't buy one. The plastic crankcases turn me off. I have mostly older Stihl, Homelite, and a huge Jonsereds.

A trick that may work for the bar loosening is to adjust the chain tension, tighten down the bar, then tighten the adjusting screw a little tighter to "lock" it.
As for the plastic crankcase in the Stihl 025...mine is metal. So are the crankcases of the others I've seen.

OK, NO FIGHTING NOW!
The crankcase is metal. It bolts into a plastic housing for the tanks and bar attachment. I call it a poor man's 026. Excellent service record so far. Sales have tripled in the last year. Customers like the bigger chain than the 021(210). Consumer saw, but the tree guys buy it due to price. They wear them out in 3 to 4 years. Then they buy another one. They should not be using them, but the customer is always right!
