Ma Fraid I may be due for some sort of hearing aid. I am starting to hear sounds I never used to hear before? Like when I am driving I here one thing and everyone else hears something else.

I can also be in the house and the wife will say 'can't you here that noise" Nope!!

I am 44 and have been around loud places, machinery, and constant B.S. too!

Even Metallica isn't as loud as I would like it to be!

Shop with care, for both the hearing aid and the doctors prescribing them. I've watched several of my elderly relatives shell out thousands and thousands of dollars for hearing aids that shreiked, but they couldn't hear it. They ate batteries like I've never seen anything eat batteries. Required "tune ups" every few months. All that, and none of them seemed to help them hear much better.

I also say beware the doctor. I've had one tell me my hearing is excellent, it's just that everyone I know mumbles. :-/

Hearing aids are not what they are cracked up to be. Evena pair going foe $4000 t0 $5000 are no better than the one advertised for $350 from a Dekalb, Ill company. Have have had them for the last 10 years. Don't try to wear them in your shop
or driving a tractor. Dust, rain, or shower is the death of them. Requires a complete overhaul of several hundred dollars. I finally got digusted and just purchased my second pair, about a month ago, have had them in my ears less than 2 weeks. the rest of the time they have been in the factory for fixing, ( no charge to me, told them the next time they act up they will come back to them for good, didnt get out of the office before they started whistling. Am to get my $3600 back in a day or so. DeKalb pair seems to be ok for the short time I have had them.
Remember if a Dr. tells you that H A won't help you , believe him. Some types of hearing loss, there is no help.

First, I was a "car stereo" nut growing up, then the army's artillery school finished my hearing off. I have less that 25% of my original hearing. The up-side is the lack of hearing will add YEARS to my marraige. No, I don't want a hearing aide. John

My standard phraise is 'Huh, what did you say?' :-)

Why is it when we are kids in the Army we thing that we dont need earplugs for the 'real guns'? I heard 120mm's going off for years after I got out. I wasnt a stero fan, but had a real fetish for a straight pipe on a David Brown. You are right about the marriage thing though. Been married 10 years, I just nod and smile. All jokes aside, guess I'm lucky still got 70% in my right ear, 40% in my left.

Hello 790. I have had a set of hearing aids for five years. They make a world of difference. I use to talk loud now a lot of people have trouble hearing me. Get a set that you can adjust the volume on. Those preset ones i don't like. Make yourself wear them until you get use to them, then you won't want to be without them. Archie

My wife made me get a hearing aid, I hate the sucker. The phone ringing makes me jump out of my skin. Before I had trouble hearing womens voices. I too had problems understanding the voices on tv. Now I can and found they didn't have nothing to say worth listening to anyway. About the only time I wear mind is while riding in truck so I can hear my wife. Don't know why I need it though, she usually falls a sleep everytime she gets in the truck. Owful pricy for something I don't use.

Common to tractor drivers. I too hear certain sounds, not others. Can't hear the micro-wave beeper, but Can hear the rear end of my pickup "play tunes" that no one else can hear. We hear some frequencies and not others. A good doc/tester would set the hearing aid to match your responce. What bugs me is 2000 to 5000 dollars for 3.98 worth of transistors. Most movies are loud enough, but can't understand a word they say. Same for some women voices, like on the telphone.

Be sure to have your hearing tested by someone who does not sell hearing aids. My Dr. said a hearing aid would not help my hearing loss. Been around too much loud noise too.

What say?
I'm hearing crickets 24/7. I just wish they'd change their song.
What say?
