Hi, I have the chance to buy a Stihl 034 chain saw, used, for a decent price. I already have a Stihl 028 super and I love it. But I have been clearing a heavily wooded lot for firewood and the 028 is a little small. I had heard the 034 wasn't a long lasting saw. Anyone know different?? Thanks a lot. Steve

Got one - love it. Nice, mid-sized and very useable saw! Go fer it!

I used mine to cut up teenagers in Texas years ago - or was that in a movie? Can't 'member...

I bought one new I think in 1988 and have never had to do any major work on it. I use it around the farm cutting wood and some timber through the years. I haven't used it day after day as a business.

The 034 replaced the 032 (a real dog), which replaced the 031(an incredible saw). The 031 was one of the first truely light, powerful, dependable saws that Stihl came out with. That said, the 034 is even better than the 031. I mourned the demised of the 031, but as I became accustomed to the 034, I came to almost forget the 031. The 034 is a really terrific saw. Have owned several.

034 is as good as any saw out there. I personally use one for firewood. Obtained after a customer traded it in after wearing the second piston (air filter was never cleaned).
Did not want to chance selling it for used, so I replaced the piston and used it myself for 5 years, 20 cord a year. Saw is all original otherwise, believe an 1988 model.
I think the best firewood saw Stihl has ever had.I fell the trees with it using a 20 inch, 3/8
bar and chain.

I`ve also known quite a few 034s to be very good saws.

I've never known a pro grade saw like a 034 to be crapppy in the first place, unless you forget to maintain it properly. The Husqvarna 55 has a reputation for being indestructible, I have heard this from many people and they all agree the 55 is a GREAT saw for most anyone to use. The 034 is great for a regular use saw to see action on a daily basis.
