I too have a China 7x12. love it. Quality is OK if you don't overload the motor. Homier was way cheaper tham others. Little machine shop is nice guy. Tim is right on other places.

Riverbend: I've got a mini-lathe; one of the China-made 7x12 lathes sold in Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, etc. I've had good luck getting tooling from Enco (www.use-enco.com), which is a division of MSC. They're fast, knowledegable, and quite reasonable on price. Grizzly and Little Machine Shop (littlemachineshop.com, I believe) are two other sources. Little Machine shop makes quite a few specialty tools for the smaller lathes--their stuff isn't cheap, but what I've seen is high-quality.

E-bay always has lots of SB goodies, some cheap, some not. Yahoo has a SB board and HOME SHOP MACHINIST ( Link ) have two magazines and a board. Many articles on DIY tooling. Both boards are frequented by a variety of knowlegeable people.
