I am looking at a used driver maybe 15 or 20 years old, some surface rust but in good shape. He has gotten rid of his cattle so he dosn't need it anymore. It is an 8 inch and I am in Kentucky.I priced a new one for about 2100,he is asking 750 and I KNOW I CAN GET IT A little cheaper.Does that seem reasonable? Also I read where there weakest point are the springs.I checked on these and they are only 40 bucks. Are they much trouble to install?

Hi Bob,
The track & rollers are the thing that will wear quickest.Keep them well lubed. Springs are not too expensive . Want them to last longer ? Slit a piece of 3/4 inch radiator hose and insert into the center of spring. Make it the same length of spring. Dont forget leather gloves and SAFTEY GLASSES. Use good common sense and you will find why "only groundhogs DIG holes!"
Enjoy !

Bob, I'd say the price isn't to far off judging from what they go for at auctions. I also purchased one for 600 dollars but when I got it I had to do a complete overhaul. Shaver keeps parts for every one they ever made so that won't be a problem they can also provide a manual. The springs aren't difficult to replace. Be sure when you have it apart that you check the guide rollers as if there is a lot of wear on them the driver beam will have a lot of slop in it. You didn't say if it was hydraulic or pto or had manual or hydraulic adjustment. I assume it is hydraulic with manual adjustment since most are. Mine is hydraulic and it will drive a post in concrete. These are a good piece of equipment. Good Luck..... .....
