I have a craftsman 5 hp 240 V. air compressor and the pump has died. Where do you recommend I get a replacement pump. I don't want to spend a ton of money on a high quality pump I would be happy with the original but sears wants a lot of money for the replacement. I could buy a new compressor for not much more. It is a 2 cylinder single stage pump.
Thanks

The 11.9 cfm pump in Charles' list is probably the one you need. Should bolt right on. Most oil lube Craftsman compressors I've seen have had Campbell Hausfeld pumps on them, and that is one of them. 5hp is a bit optimistic though.

I understand that the rated HP is optimistic from these manufactures. But it is 240V.

Yep, they are expensive. They WANT you to buy a new one, thats why replacement parts are so expensive. I hauled off a similar unit for the same reason, the compressor trashed itself and it wasn't ecomomical to fix it.

Try the link below, they have about as good of a price as anyone.

I think there is more to it than that. I build things for a living and you have to get your supply lines set up for production. This is usually a one time deal and you are through for the whole production run.

On a piece part, you have to man-handle that one part through the different stages of getting it built thru the end user. Just more hands on time so more handling expense.

Like yesterday, I was talking to a light bulb sales rep. Had a requirement for a real weird bulb. He normally sells(places orders for) bulbs in 10,000 lots. I wanted 10. I took up just as much of his time as the large ordering person would have.

But there could still be a lot to what you said about our throw it away when broken society.
