Hydraulic leak

The swivel joint on a a line going up to my loader has a small leak. Any way of fixing it short of replacing the line?

The leak is just a couple of drops an hour. Definitely not under high pressure. I probably wouldn't bother at all with it, except they fall on the clutch pedal, making it very slippery. Banged my shin a few times slipping off in "emergency" stops (as in,... oh well it was a young pear tree probably wouldn't have made it through the winter anyway!)

A supplementary question: What is the best sealing goop to use on hydraulic fittings? The goop I'm looking for is to put on threads and to help out gaskets joining control assembly to resevoir tank. I wouldn't think of trying to goop up a swivel joint(although I'm embarrassed to admit trying Teflon tape... what a mess!)

Hi Guy, We use a sealer called Leak Lock in a blue tube, for refrigeration joints that work at 500psi +. Thats the only sealant I've found that will work under high pressure. Have never tried it on hydraulics but it should work. About the cost of a new hose $15.

hydaulic leaks are a large part of my business. If you have a true swivel joint , it has o'ring seals and teflon backup rings that need to be renewed no sealant will fix it. If you are talking about a swivel end on a hydraulic hose and the threads are leaking then a sealant may be your solution. I recomend Loctite PST. send me your address i will send a sample tube.

I dont know about swivel fittings, but I used JB weld on fixed fittings on my loader.

I was told by some oldtimers to never use any kind of goop on hydraulic fitings cause that will do the same to your pump. My 2cents. Alvin
