Looking for a table saw. I think I want a belt drive craftsman. Has anyone used the new craftsman ones that just came out? Should I look for an older one or maybe even a different brand but do not want to spend over 500.

Sears is changing the design and that usually means cheaper parts and less quality. They were clearing out last year's model about a month or two ago and there were some real good deals. I would search around.

I lucked out and got a close-out deal on an american made Delta last summer. Woodworker's Supply had a 1.5 horse belt drive, cast iron top, delivered to your door for $380.00, no tax. I did a basement remodel with tongue and groove boards and did a LOT of ripping. Saw is great and is more than enough for the work I need.

I found this saw by doing internet searches under "close out table saws" and "refurbished table saws"

Sears used to buy the saws from Emerson and they parted ways. Emerson now makes the Rigid brand for Home Depot so you may want to check them out as well.

Home depot departed with Emmerson also. Ridgid is Riobi built now. The vacs still look like emmerson. I think some sears is riobi.

I bought an old Craftsman contractor saw for $10 at an auction. Cast iron table that's perfectly flat, bearings with no wobble at all. You don't see them very often but a definite buy if you can pick one up.

The (mostly) American built Craftsman saws are pre 1998. They then went to Ridgid for the 2424 and 3612 until last year. Everything is now foreign built everywhere you shop, so you now have to decide which chinese made you want to buy! Even the cabinet saw makers are sourcing some or most of their components outside the US.
Good Luck, you'll need it!

I made a mistake and bought a flexible shaft driven Craftsman table saw. Works good until you have to replace flexible shaft for almost $100 each time. Next time it goes, I'll junk it and get a belt driven table saw.

If you don't mind buying Chinese, take a look at Jet and Grizzly. I don't know where Craftsman are made.

A 10 in. Craftsman table saw should give good results for most wood-working projects. I have a DELTA Uni-saw. You might be able to find a good used Uni-Saw for the $500.00 range.

Either case, consider an OUTFEED for your saw. Makes for easier sawing of long stock and 4x8 plywood panels.

Good Luck.
