I have just got a good deal on a Miller spool gun with a wc3 controller. It has been used on a stick type welding machine. Could this be attached to a wire type machine? Which polarity would be best for aluminum wire?

Hi Ed,

Most Mig machines to weld AL requires DCEP or reverse polarity and a CV (constant voltage) power source.

A SMAW (stick) machine requires a CC (constant current) power source.

There are some CC & CV combo machines out there as htere getting more popular. Some invertor type machines also can have both CC & CV power sources.

AL Mig welding also requires a heavy duty power source of 60% duty cycle or better.
