Hi guys, can anybody help me here? I have done a search on Yahoo, and Google, but with no help. My dad bought a cement mixer from Montgomery Wards about 20-years ago. I’m guessing it is somewhere around 9-cubic feet in size. It has an electric motor for power. The Model # 26488 B, Serial # 466, PAT No. 4,016,7700. This mixer is still in great shape, but I just used it the other day, and while watching it go round and round it hit me how do you grease the main bearings? The brake, and shaft with v-belt all have grease fittings in plain site. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to access the main drum shaft from the outside. Inside the drum is a housing with a cover plate with two 5/16” bolts, but as you can imagine the heads have been wore off with all the concrete bouncing off of them over the years. There is virtually no side-to-side movement in the drum, but I need to know how to maintain those bearings. My next plan is to weld a couple ˝” nuts to the heads of the bolts so I can get that cover off to see how this thing is put together. It would be nice to see a parts manual before reaching inside the drum and welding the nuts on, just have a gut feeling the heat may hurt a seal or something I’m not seeing. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I have a Wards mixer of the same vintage and description. The instruction manual states that the drum has factory lubricated and sealed tapered roller bearings. The cover you refer to is to be opened ONLY for bearing replacement as it is sealed for protection from the wet mix. If you have no slop in the bearings I would just run it.

Thank you Info Man. I would hate to burn it up. I don’t use a mixer enough to justify buying a new one if I destroyed this one. Thanks again.

I'm not sure how this discussion board works, but
if you can figure a way of getting your e-mail address to me I would be willing to send you the parts breakdown diagram and two page instruction manual (in jpeg format) for the mixer. I don't recommend posting your address for all to see...

Hi Info Man. Thank you very much. Ah it is already public, in my last post I toggled it in where you could use it if you wanted. Just go to my last post or the top of this one, and double click on my handle “Pile Buck” and it will take you to my e-mail address. Again thank you very much; maybe someday I can return the favor.

likely a sealed bearing. I'd just run it.
