I have a yardmachine woodsplitter that I bought back in 99. Its a 5hp Briggs & S. I cannot for the life of me fine anyplace to drain the oil. The bottom of the engine is not accesible. Do I need to remove the engine or try to syphon the oil out of the fill hole. Thanks for the info

I have a new Campbel Hausfeld pressure washer with a 6 horse Briggs on it, and there is no drain plug on it. The instructions for the engine say to tip it over to drain. A lot easier to do on a pressure washer than on a log splitter.

If you have used it a lot in these FIVE years, now is a fine time to be finding out how to change the oil. These engines should be changed after the first 5 hours and then a lot more often than 5 years. Good luck.

Takes a while to get five hours on a pressure washer used only a few minutes at a time -- only took me 3 years.

Took me a few minutes to figure out mine. Look underneath and you'll see a plug with a square indentation that takes an extension from a 3/8" drive ratchet.

I have a B&S 5 horse horizontal shaft engine, a few years older than yours. The oil drain plug on it is a large set screw on the side of the base plate (where the bolt holes for mounting are located.) Hope this helps.

If they used a vertical shaft motor (which are cheaper, since they're used in lawnmowers), there's a good chance they neglected to punch a hole in the mounting plate for the drain plug. Or it's in the wrong place. Take the motor off, figure out where the drain is and drill a hole in the plate. If the drain is obstructed by the pump, you might be able to plumb a rubber hose to the drain.

If it is a verical shaft engine you may have to remove it the first time.I drilled a large hole in plate under drain hole after I had to remove the one on mine.Guess they did not thikk about oil change when they put engine on.

Maybe just have an access hole for the wrench. Take the motor number and go to the briggs/Stratton web site and see if you can pull the number up there.

It may be a plug with a hole that takes a large Allen wrench or the drive on a 3/8 rachet -- don't remember which is on my pressure washer. There is room to get it out, mine was sort of buried under the framework at the bottom of the engine. Took me a few minutes to find it.
