I was thinking of using them to knife blades. Figure they are higher carbon than SS and would hold edge longer. Plus they are heat treated. I figure I could use them for rough use with little concern. Besides pitching them what do you do with old blades?

I've made several boat builders/carpenter's slicks using truck leaf springs; lawnmower blades might could be used to make a lighter version..... ...

Nice job. How are the handles attached?

3/8 inch all threaded rod welded to blade (which is annealed to simplfy welding); 3/4 inch black pipe welded (to blade) on outside of that to receive handle. Handle is turned down to go into pipe and is drilled its entire length to fit over rod. I've forgotten (it's been a couple of years) what kind of piece of metal is on end of handle; something I got out of my "junk" pile and tapped for the 3/8 rod. Built the first one because of something I saw on TV (Roy Underhill.....Woodwright Shop, maybe); built the 2nd and 3rd tinkering with design; after a couple more, it gets to be work and is no longer any fun.

I got a couple of "corn knives" (machete) made out of lawnmower blades. They will chop through just about anything.

Ditto on that one! I also have some old worn out cultivator points that can and will serve in that capacity. Thanks for the idea!!

They're especially nice as my "tanks" consist of 3-1/2 and 5-gallon pails, and the blades are tall enough to stick out so you can clamp them. They're also handy when doing things like old files, as they're roughly the same shape and the electrolysis can act over the entire surface of the part. I'm sold on electrolysis--I just started this winter, and I've cleaned up a bunch of old stuff that would have been very difficult to clean up manually. For instance, I had an old screw jack for a Ford Model T, and a week in the tank freed up the screw and took off probably 70 years of corrosion. I was quite impressed, and the fact it didn't require a lot of scraping, wire brushing, and sanding was a big benefit as well!

I welded 4 together and made an edger blade out of them. I took the tines off my tiller, and put them on. Leaves a nice neat channel about 3/4" wide, versus the ones you buy that just slice. Another advantage, because of the lift on the blades, they throw the dirt to the side, so you can pitch it to the sidewalk for easy cleanup. Just make sure you make the leading edge longer, otherwise they will want to jump.

Vaughan: Have you knocked on the door yet? Karl: No, Sir, not yet. Vaughan: How long have you been standing here? Karl: Quite a spell, I reckon. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- --
Karl: There were these two fellars standin' on a bridge, a-goin' to the bathroom. One fellar said, "The water's cold" and the other fellar said, "The water's deep". I believe one fella come from Arkansas. Get it? ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- --
Karl: [on the phone] Yes, Ma'am. I've killed Doyle Hargraves with a lawnmower blade. I hit him two good whacks in the head with it. That second one just plum near cut his head in two... It's a lil' ol' white house on the corner of Vine Street and some other street. There's a pick-up truck out front that says "Doyle Hargraves Construction" on it. Doyle said besides sending the police, you might wanna send an ambulance or a "hearst". I'll be sitting here, waiting on ye.

I reckon you want to know why they put me here in the narvous hospital uh-hmm, well, they say I killed two people and I reckon I did, uh-hmm. So, I've done my time and say I'm better now, they gonna let me go.

When I was a boy, I didin't go to school to much..they made right smart sport of me an all..... uh hmm, so I spent most of my time out thar in the shaid, piddlin with a lawn mower an sech. They wouldn't let me stay up thar in the house with'em, so i had me a hole out thar in the shaid, I slept in, right thar in the ground, uh hmm.

My father was a hard workin man, didn't make much, but enough fer me to have biscuits an' mustard two-three times week..... ..... .....

Pure classic, Billy Bob's best work ever. Too bad no sequel, I always expected one. Uh-hmm.
