Any thoughts on a good brand of air ratchet (or air tools in general)? I have a variety of cheaper tools now and would like to upgrade beginning with a ratchet.

Hi John, I have mostly IR air tools and am happy with them, but a friend of mine has nothing but chicago air tools from harbor frieght and "he thinks" they are fine, but when I was helping out at his place one day I had a chance to use his air tools and found them to do the job but were hard on the hands and joints, they vibrated like crazy and were very uncomfortable to use.

Thanks for the info--what about Snap On, MAC, etc. I know there was a discussion about their hand tools some time ago, but what about their air tools? Are they simply overpriced or in some way worth the money? thanks

IMHO snapon and the like probably have good air tools, but they are not worth the price. I would just stick to namebrand midrange or better. Unless you have more money than you know what to do with ;^)

I would appreciate any comments on restoring the power to a far72b snap on 3/8 air ratchet.is the head kit all you need?does anyone know what is included in a snap on overhaul? This is the first tool I would buy if all my tools were stolen.I also have the 1/4 inch snap on ratchet and it needs an overhaul too

Chicago Pnuematic (mid-range) or Ingersoll Rand

John -
While working in the aviation industry for several years I used Chicago equipment with no major problems. To me top of the line was I/R but you had to weigh cost vs. usefulness.

Keep em clean, oiled and periodic maintenance and I feel Chicago is good without busting the bank.
Make sure you buy quality attachments (impact sockets etc.)to reduce future headaches.

Campbell Hausfield I am not impressed with. Ok compressors, poor tools.
