I have a Snapper lt 16 mower with a 48" deck on it, the spindals on it are regular ball bearing spindals, they go out every two years and I have to replace the bearings. I am looking for a whole spindal assymbly that has the tapered roller bearings or cone bearings in it that will work on my Snapper mower, do any of you know where I can find a spindal like this that will fit on my LT 16 Snapper? My Cub Cadet has roller bearings in it but I just bought it a mounth ago, my uncle has had his Cub Cadet for 10 years and never replaced a bearing in it yet, it has the cone roller bearings though.

you need to change your bearing supplier, I sell a lot of equipment to commercail landscape contractors and they normally run 500-1000 hours on a set of bearings. If you are going through bearings that often, you have problem with your bearing manufacturer. Tapered roller bearings normally will last about 1/2 the time of a ball bearing in a lawn mower spindle assembly.

When I have had to replace the bearings, I drilled the jackshaft housing and installed a fitting. Then removed the inside bearing seals before installation, This way you can grease those rascals periodically. Worked for me anyhow.

These are not sealed bearings in this mower..I put lots of grease in them and they still go out. Thats why im looking for roller bearings, they are the kind scag uses in their mowers.

I would think if you got a good grade of sealed bearings you would be okay. They ussually are good for many years unless you are using it commercially. (Lots of hours). I got a full set of bearings for mine last fall for $38 at Accurate Bearing Co. 1-800-323-6548. You need to know exactly what the bearing number is, they don't have parts manuals. I always get Nachi brand rather KBC. Cost a little more, but a better quality bearing.
