Have a shot at a used air compressor. It's a two stage (I think), 2 cyl (upright cyls, side by side), cast iron pump, 80 gal upright tank. Labled a "Gilbarco Green Diamond", built by Gilbert and Baker Manufacturing, Springfield, Mass. Anybody know of this brand, how old, still in business, taken over by anyone we know? Anything would help. Original motor replaced by a 3HP single phase, forgot to check RPM. Motor and pump have 2 sheave pulleys.

Thanks,

Mike Danford
Chickamauga, GA

I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I could get parts and service instructions for a 1940's vintage Gilbarco air compressor. It's a 3/4 hp 40 or 50 gallon horizontal model with the (308)head. I need to know how the valves come out of the head and where to get a new valve spring. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to restore another one my great grandfathers tools. Thank you!

The pump should be a Quincy Model 310. You should be able to find assistance at a local authorized service center. Use the Quincy website to find help:

I am researching a Gilbarco "Green Diamond" Air Compressor. I would like to compare notes if you own one, or obtain a parts/service manual, or any literature, etc. Please contact me if you own one or have any such information. Thanks.

Thom

I think that Gilbert and Baker manufactured service station fuel pumps going back to the old hand pumps. I think they are still in business as Gilbarco. I doubt if they made the air compressor. It is probably rebadged and made by someone else like IR.

Sir,

You're exactly right, finally figured out the pump was made by Quincy. By the way, the company name is Gilbert and BARKER, not Baker, my mistake. Thanks for posting.

Mike

On that Gilbarco I just got one for FREE
I am now doing the research into rebuilding it for my little Hotrod project in the garage...

It should be home by next weekend (I forgot to get the model numbers off the tank.. Ooops)

I posted a few pictures of the compressor on the Hotrod's site at this link...

I couldn't tell from the postings if they were current or not.. I'M TRYING TO FIND PARTS FOR MY GILBERT AND BARKER twin cylinder air compressor. It looks somewhat similar to the one in your pictures. The tank is the same and the mount plate and motor are the same. My compressor is built like a v-twin. The reed valves are worn and I haven't been able to find new ones. Any contact you might have down there? I'm in Ontario , Niagara falls area. I'd like to hear from anybody that owns one of these compressors. Thanks,TURP
