Roofing that I can walk on

I need to replace the 30 yr old cedar shingles on my house. I'll start by removing all the old shingles and repairing any weak sheeting. I wouldn't mind steel or any of the newer products, but they all require strapping. Since I go up on the roof a few times a year I don't want to chance misstepping off a strap. I'm leaning towards a long-life asphalt shingle (35 or 50 yr) but are there any other choices out there????
Thanks

Nothing better than good old shingles. Metal is for outbuildings and barns, and is not as "maintanence free" as you would guess. Most metal roofs have underlying damage that the owner does not even suspect (or see). I've inspected hundreds of homes with metal roofing and would never put one on anything I lived in. If you do go metal, be sure to acount for proper ventilation of the roof. Just my 2 cents.

Take a look at standing seam steel roofing. No nails that show or exposed to the weather

Metal roofing, properly fastened, will stand limited amount of walking. In fact, no roof should be walked on more than necessary. If the pitch is not too steep, soft soled shoes and steel go together very well.

Good luck,

Bill

I don't know where you are getting your information but you need to do some research on roofing before you start because your way off the mark.
