So I built my sandblasting box and routed in this CH siphon feed sandblaster, Im not very pleased with the way it shoots sand, it surges, fires good for a few secs then like has to suck up more sand and so on. its not a constant stream of sand being fired. I have it up to 110 psi. Is there something wrong with my sandblasting gun? only thing I changed on it was the sand plastic tube the rubber one was all cracked I replaced it with a clear poly type hose.
any Ideas? also If I were to buy a new one, which one do you guys like? I also have a pressure pot but I only use that for big jobs.
Jay.

I don't use sand in my cabinet but just glass beads or aluminum oxide. I made a double pickup tube from 1/2" electrical conduit. You fasten a shorter second tube to your longer air inlet tube by welding. Should have about a 1/4 or 5/16 hole drilled a couple inches about bottom of open suction tube and also where it connects to the 2nd air inlet tube. The bottom of second tube is closed off or welded shut letting the air pull in from the open top side and creating more air flow into the suction tube to the gun. Carefully weld it together where the 2 holes join at the bottom. I use one of the more open type suction guns with brass body and carbide tips and a foot pedal air valve and don't have any surge problems with it because of the pickup tube I have. Motor vibrators are also used on larger cabinets to keep the abrasive flowing to the bottom of the cabinet. www.tptools.com www.blast-it-all.com

All suction blasters i have used surge. Make sure sand is screened/filtered, DRY, (put at least one preferably two moisture traps inline with a very short airline after to blaster)You also can try reducing the size of nozzle to keep air flow rates up. Also when I first start I have peak air pressure and mine does ok, within 20 secs the surging worsens, I suspect my compressor just can't keep up (10.5 cm @ 90psi) after 5 mins I need to stop and let the compressor build up. I have considered purchasing a pressure pot type and running it into the cabinet for better speed/flow. Any negatives to this??

On several syphon-feed sanblasters I've had, the hose from the gun is attached to a metal "pickup tube" that has either one tube inside another, or two tubes side-by-side. Either way, the second tube admits some air near the sand pickup point, that helps move the sand along to the gun.

Is it possible yours was originally set up like that and the pickup part has become missing?

I have that trouble sometimes with one in a cabinet when I turn on the exhaust fan.
