Am considering the purchase of one. Have looked at Dewalt DW718 what are your thoughts on this and others?

Haven"t tried any of the others but I love my Dewalt sliding bevel saw. Used it to make a chicken coop last year. Got to get all kinds of good angles built in to the construction. It slides good, is accurate once you set it up and is of high quality. Wife calls the coop the "coop de-ville"

Hey RJ,
I recently worked in sales for one of the larger suppliers of woodworking tools & equipment in the country... have talked to lots of factory reps, used lots of tools & read lots of test/evaluation reports over many years... three saws rank #1, #2, & #3 in most tests (in no particular order...) DeWalt, Makita & Hitachi. Having said that, for my money, the DeWalt 708 comes out on top. Makita used to make an excellent 12" saw, but changed it a couple years ago... I don't care for the new version... the Hitachi saws don't seem to have as much cutting capacitiy as other saws. I bought a DW 705 in 1993 or 1994 (can't remember for sure) and have literally used it to death for all these years. Only thing I've done to it is to change the blades as they become dull... the saw itself is absolutely bullet proof AND, is extremely accurate! Anyways, after being so satisfied with my first DW saw, about three years ago I decided I needed a slider so I bought a 708... I'm every bit as happy with that saw as with my 705... as far as I'm concerned, they don't get any better than this!!! Sorry this is so long... HTH
Regards, DL
