hyjacks.net has an animated drwing of how a jack works. Might be able to search the site and find your problem. Seems like something is stuck in the return line. Have you tried laying it down or upside down?

Thanks Bill for the link to hyjacks. It is very interesting. While looking through the site I found an article on general floor jack history. This includes information on manufacturers/ importers and has some history of where the jacks come from.

This may sound stupid, but is it really cold where you are at? Im thinking if you have alot of moisture in the oil it may have froze. Put it in a heated room for a while to try it. This is just a guess..
