See a sale on a Iron Horse (by Eagle?) air compressor, 4 gallon, handle on top, says 4.x cfm, electric 120v, cast iron bits.

Is this an acceptical size? Want something I can move from place to place, not looking for biggest/ baddest.

I bought two of them and am impressed with the quality (although they're Chinese). One for home, and one at a remote property. I see them for sale in my area in two versions - both 4 gallon, circular tank and top carry handle, but one model/brand is 4 CFM at 90 PSI, and the other is 5 CFM at 90 PSI. The lower rated one was at Walmart for $89, and the better one for sale for $79 at Tractor Supply Co.. So, I bought the latter - i.e. it's a better deal. Actually, I bought one on-sale for $69 - liked it so much I went back a week later to buy a second one and the price was raised to $79. I already have a large shop compressor. What I wanted was something light, something a small electric generator could run, mainly for filling tires out in the field, or running air-powered nail guns, etc. For that, it's perfect. I'm building a cabin in the Adirondacks (no electricity) and use my 8 horse portable generator to run it - while using my air framing nail-gun. I made a 100 foot extension cord with 10 gauge wire so the generator is not too close to me while working. My 12 gauge cord was not heavy enough to start the compressor motor at 100 feet. I'm also using one in my house to run a nail gun - it works great and is pretty quiet. My generator is 4000 watt - but keep in mind most 4000 watt generators do NOT put out that wattage at 120 volts. The rating is kind of misleading - it really only has dual 120 volt recepticles - each capable of 1900 watts (around 16 amps). I mention this because, you can probably run these compressors with a 5 horse 2000 watt generator if it truly put out 2000 watts in one circuit - like one of the newer inverter series Yamahas or Hondas. I tried using my Coleman 1850 watt generator -and it didn't work.

What kind of uses do you have planned for it. Also, ocassionally?, every day?

Air things up, blow things off. I know it won't run any serious air tools, or even not so serious.

Will use it occationally, down on the farm.

Current air compressor is older than me, runs with a 1/2hp electric motor, fills the portable 11gal air tank in 5 minutes or more.

Someday it would be nice to have a real shop with 40+ gal tank & 220v motor & metal pipes & air tools. Someday. Need the building & a few other things to happen first. :)

For now, better than I have, something I can take to my sis' place a time or two, to the town house a time or 2. Get the combine tire filled up in less than a day. :)

But not constant duty. Not sure if some Harbor Frieght $89 deal is fine for me, this thing at $115, or some of the similar size $200 names.

Thanks.
