If both cylinders have an air filter, it is single stage. If one cylinder feeds into the other, it is two stage.

Usually also the tubing connecting the low pressure (larger) cylinder to high pressure (smaller) cylinder is finned, and is located close to the fan on the flywheel to cool the air passing through it.

2 ways.
1. 1 of the cylinders is smaller.
2. The larger cylinder is plumbed to the smaller one and it goes to the tank.

A 2 stage compressor is for high pressure, not volume. The larger cylinder is the one that takes air and compresses it, it then goes into the smaller cylinder for more compression.

Hi,

One cylinder will be obviously larger than the other in a two-stage compressor. The smaller cylinder will be the second stage.
