Check the screen in the muffler, its more than likely full of carbon build-up..... .....Thats the first thing we do when we get a new saw..... .give that screen flying lessons..!!!

I agree with Too Far Gone. I had the same experience with my 026, cracked fuel lines, replaced same and made a world of difference. Cheap too!!!

Please dont dick with the carb yet.Ive seen this very thing 3 times so far, twice on an 029,and once on my 039.The rubber fuel lines will crack and start sucking air.Replaced them and cured the problem, might help you also.Ive never once touched the carb on my Stihl Saws.

Yep! I have a Stihl 029 that did much the same thing. Ran great for years (I cut about 8 cords of wood a year), then started slowly losing power. Took it to a qualified repair shop. Guy said spark plug was shot and carb needed rebuild. After repairs, ran GREAT!!

Have you tried to adjust the carb? Tweeking the screws A little may fix your problem. I did say a little, my saw will on occasion need a slight adjustment. Do not mess with it if you are not familiar with 2 cycle engines. Lean it out too much and goodbye piston.

Its in your carb- clean that and it should be good to go.
