might be a bit OT, but don't see anywhere else to ask. i have a 24' bin with a shivvers system, and a 6" under the floor unload auger. bought a continuous flow dryer last year and want to convert the shivvers floor auger to a sweep auger. i will be taking out the center circulating auger and the 4" transfer auger (to the other bins), but would like to use the existing gearbox to drive the sweep.
my first thought was to replace the floor auger with a 4" auger that has an attached "cup" on the back side. the existing outer auger drivewheel is 5" diameter, so i assume i can put a 4" auger in its place without it grinding on the aeration floor. i would like the new auger to NOT be self moving- i want it to stay in place until i am in the bin and slide it into the corn.
anybody out there done this?
thanks,
old bones

As a former Shivvers Dealer and Grain Equip dealer I must warn You of how dangerous it is to be in a bin with running Equipment especially a Sweep Auger. Utilize the Shivvers Gear Box with a 6" Friction Drive Sweep Auger and let it do the unloading. A 6" Sweep will keep an 8" unload Auger busy.Above all do not get in the Bin with it. People have been maimed and killed from this Equipment.

Why you doing this anyway. You already have the sweep drive there if you just look you should have a stub shaft outr other side of the gearbox if you already have the floor sweep for the shivers transfer.. Otherwise if you are renmoving the shivers then sell it and us a carrying sweep period lot less hassles period.

Our shivvers system does have a sweep, not sure exact size. It is powered around though just like the drying sweep. It mounts on a shaft 90 degrees from the drying sweep. Moves nice and slow until the grain is cleaned up then watch out, itll take off around the bin. Nice not to have to worry about dragging a cord into the bin to power a sweep with a heavy motored auger. Maybe you should leave the 4in transfer auger in the system, sure its slow but less time and effort spent in moving the fill auger to the next bin.

That is not a driven sweep auger. If it was it would move at the same speed in or out of the corn. It drives itself from friction, where the little feet ride on the plates around the bin.

Wouldn't it be better to ask the Shivver Co. rather than to ask people who MAY stear you wrong?????.
