ot can the timming belt for 1984 ford escort with the mazda diesel engine be changed without pulling the engine as per the book. seems like alot of work to chang the belt as per the book.car has lot of miles has set for 7 years .put in a good battery started right up and ran fine. thanks

yes it can be done it takes about a hour as I have done it to my car just remove the front motor mount .

Hi. Dunno if they use different spec engines in other parts of the world but I've done a few UK spec. escort timing belts. If it's only got 1 belt, they're a doddle. The 2 belt ones (later than 84, I think) then they're a bit of a PIA. Bit of a tight fit with a shortage of spanner room...

it can be done a long tine ago i put a water pump and belt on one did not pull the engine

Never done a diesel in a escort. i have done the gaser and its a tight fit. I use a hole saw and drill thur rhe inner fender to git the crank pully bolt loose then a 6 ft. pry dar to pry the engine back enoufh to git the pulley off, shoud werk on a diesel. You should be able to take the front engine mt off and either jack up or let the engine fall down to do the job.
