Took my 1/2" crafsman touque wrench back today to exchange, found out warrenty only good for one year. What BS!! Plastic handle came off mind. Anyone else with this problem? Are there touque wrenches out there that do have lifetime warrenty?

I bought a Craftsman torque wrench a few years ago and the label stated a one year warrenty. I don't know of anyone that offers a long term warrenty on these due to them requiring recalibration sometimes plus people using them as breaker bars.

I have never found any one that will offer that on one. All it takes is a good hard drop to brake/ get it out of true. BUt a new beam type only costs around $15-20 and thats the only type I will own. I had a clicker type and was useing it but it didn't seem right to me so I put my beam type on and found it was off by 50% so if I need to torque some thing to 100 FT-LBS it was only going to 50. I will never ever use a clicker type again. If I have trusted it I would have been out $1000 plus because the engine wouldn't have lasted long

Hey old, I use my beam type to check my clicker torque wrench. Use an 8 point socket to connect the two together. Set the clicker to whatever setting you want, hook the two together at about 45° with the beam wrench facing up and squeeze the handles. When the beam wrench gets to the desired pounds the clicker should click. If it's off there's a little hole for adjustment on the clicker handle. Never had to adjust one yet.

If you leave the clicker types adjusted up, ie do not return them to 0 torque setting after use. They will get to be very inaccurate.

Most if you don't want to spend the big $$ to have them calibraed are worthless. Yep they need to be adjusted every once in a while and that then cost more $$. THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE $$$

ya know, now that you mention that it makes me wonder if that aint the reason my chev 283 flew apart a few years ago. I rebuilt it in the High School auto class, all they had were the clicker's. When I was getting the torque specs from the substitute teacher (ex Chev mechanic, older then my 283) they seemed low to me, but I'm thinkin the wrench itself didn't torque them right.

Since them the values don't seme like they were that far off....

Yep those clicker type need to be calibrated about twice a year and that costs almost as much as a new one. To me they are a waste of good money. Any good beam type is worth more then 100 clicker types

Off the top of my head, no manufacturer offers a lifetime warranty on torque wrenches too include the tool truck brands. It would kind of hard for them to do that based the wrenches needing periodic calibration to remain accurate and knowing that some people use the torque wrench for alot of other things besides final tightening.

I doubt it. Try Mac or Snap-On. Might be cheaper to just replace it every 10 years or so.

Just bought a Husky at Home Depot says right on it Life Time Warranty, had a sticker on the wrench itself and said it all over the box.
