just bought my first H love it ! except i changed the oil that was in it and low and behold it was low. i noticed a knocking in the crankcase when i bought it and figured that was the case! the oil in it was very little and very thick and filthy!put 4 quarts of fresh oil in and oil pressure came up no knocking ran great! then 15 min later started smoking! never smoked before even with the 1 quart of dirty syrup that was in it. its running great good pressure low temp! any ideas?

It holds more then 4 quarts of oil. Do you have a manual ?

I think maybee with 1 quart in it it didn't have eonugh oil left in it to pump up to valve guides and rings thus no smoke, now that you have it full it has enough to leak past the valve guides and rings, the usual cause of oil burning and smoking. Just my thoughts.

My 45 H smoked alot until I went and give it a good working and warmed it up good and changed the oil again, current owner of hasn't had a problem with it either.
