We got a new set of chains for our new firetruck, they have about four or five cams to tighten the chains. Now everyone wants to get the cams to add on all the other truck chains. I also want cams for every set of chains I own. Does anyone know where we can get the cams without buying all new chains. Truly the best thing since toilet paper, why did I not think of it first? HI Dave;

I been scoring a set of duel chains from our local scrape yd. for around $5.00 pr.
Have bi-passed the ones with the cams, as I use them in making pasture harrows for the horse nuggets. I've lent them out a time or two & just hate it when I have to go & borrow them back.

Rather than welding theese cams in I believe it would be just as quick to use the side link chains w/cams and transfer your cross links to them.

I bet they are made in China and won't wear too good. As far as adding them in to other tire chains I don't think they are available seperatly.

The company I drove truck for bought a bunch (they own over 25,000 trucks) of China chains and soon learned the hard way that 'you get what you pay for'! I agree with the Chinese chains being poor quality but usually broke them before they wore out :-) You can't say, however, that just because they are cam-locks that they are Chinese since they've been 'MADE in AMERICA' for many, many years.

I'm not sure what you mean by "cams" but i have a latch system on my tractor tire chains that has a cam action when it closes. Look at tirechains.com. Maybe they can help.

Jerry- These are used on 'cam-lock' chains and are usually found on 'big trucks'. There are four or more spaced evenly along the side links and you use a key kinda like an Allen wrench but with a obround end to tighten them. Once you get them tightened up you can really move without any slap or fear of throwing them.
