Our Church building is a very large Morton building with a horse barn design, tall center and shorter roof on the sides. Now for the bad part, when ice(last week)snow(this week)slide off of the roof it is covering the side walks,so far nobody has been around but one of these days somebody is going to get hurt! The ice came off so hard this week it tore off one of the flue pipes. Any ideas?

Even with the ice guards on the roof, I would keep a safe distance from the sidewalls...Even a two pound piece of ice could be fatal to a bystander...A few years back at The Harvest States grain terminal in Superior, Wisc., A semi was driving past a large grain bin when a chunk of ice and snow slid off..One destroyed truck cab.. You may want to check with your local building inspector and see if any walkways or entrances near that part of the building are in compliance with code...

There are several brands of "Ice guards". The one my buddy had put on his Auto parts building were plastic 2 rows. Cost $2500 for a 80 ft long building

The building that I work out of had the same problem. So we had the builder put up "snow guards". I am not sure what it is really called. It looks like angle iron only made from the same steel as the roof and it is attached to the roof about 12" from the edge. Snow and ice no longer is a problem. The angle must hold it up on the roof until it just melts away.

Get Yellow Safety Tape, and tape off the areas that ice might slide off to.. The Ice/snow is there, and is going to either melt, or slide off.. Just try to be sure no one gets hurt...

Thanks for the replies, it finally came to me today what those things were that I saw on a roof a while back the only thing I could think of was birds and that didn`t look right either. This building has been up long enough that Morton replaced the roof two years ago for free but the warranty ran out before they finished the job.
