I have posed responces before on the DeWalts. Just a cheap word of advise is if you can find a Black & Decker 18V with the stem that looks simalar to the DeWalts it will work and is usualy about 1/2 price. One puts a 1/4" keway off to the side, the other centered. A sharp utility blade will cut the 1/4" keyway off. Preformance is the same in our unoficial observations.

I have a friend that replaces the C batteries that are inside the 18v with good luck. WE usualy have dropped ours from roofs and damaged them slightly so I figured it may be in vain. I bit the bullet and switched to all Craftsman 18v tools and thumb my nose at the DeWalts as our budget for battery powered tools drop about 70% a year. I admit it was pretty hard to toss a dozen or so DeWalts that just needed batteries, but DeWalt just over does the price of replacment batteries and chargers. We have had two different chargers catch fire, and were fused with 15 amp breakers. So all batteries are now charged in a large military metal mortar container so a fire could not spread.
I just seen Sears has a 18v impact driver (I love ours) and a drill for less than 100 dollars including 2 batteries and a single charger.

cheapist way I have found to buy them is the two pack at Lowes. Used to be 100 now maybe 110.

I'll second that. Lowe's in two packs is the cheapest I've found.
