Saw this idea in a magazine and it interested me because I have some old track and 3 trolleys laying around. I would fasten it to the bottom edge of 2 by 6 trusses. Anybody ever do this before ? How much could I lift ? Most wooden barn doors would weigh 300 but I dont want to bring down my store bought trusses on my head. Thanks for any ideas.

That 300 lb door would probably have 3 or more hangers and spaced 6' or more apart so the track would have 4 hangers suporting each roller with only one roller supporting only 100# or less and each hanger suporting 25# if it is the square box or the round cannon ball track, other types are not as strong. I would say for a rope block and tackle it would be heavy enough but not enough for a chain hoist as a 1/2" rope would have someware around a 150# breaking point

i used a door track attached to the ceiling of a shed to hold up the rear of the front half of my ih 240 tractor when i split it for clutch repair . when the two parts were unbolted i just rolled front half forward on the track and front wheels and then back to reassemble . of course a jack under the front of the rear half . i have since built a shop with a I beam down the middle with a chain hoist on a trolley . l really like it , no engine hoists in the way .

i suppose you could do this, for light duty lifting, maybe you'll even lift a head off of a 4 cylinder tractor!

I did that very same thing when I first started welding for a living years ago. Last year I took it down, added 20' and put it up in the hay barn. I have the hay conveyor hanging from it so as a bay gets full I just pick up the bottom end and move it on to the next one. I hung a 2x6 under the trusses to bolt the hangers to.
