I recently bought "T&E Tools" 1/2 inch driver chrome 6pt. metric 10-32mm socket set from my local toolstore. The sockets and box indicate manufacture in the Chicago USA. They appear to be quality tools.

Would appreciate more information on this brand. I can't seem to find anything on the internet. It doesn't appear to be a standard retail brand.

Thanks in advance,

Chris W.

This is an update to my May 4, 2001 E-Mail. I was able to acquire a "T&E Tools & Equipment Pro-line Handtool" catalog from "Hobo Tools ->Link

These>Link tools are advertised for automotive mechanics. The catalog shows some pictures on their new automated Dallas Texas plant. However, my 1/2 metric socket/rachet set indicates manufacture in Chicago on their red metal box and made in USA on each individual socket.

Mid America Tool, Inc. of Chicago is the main distributor of these tools. Catalog prices appear similiar to SK and carry a lifetime warranty. The catalog also carries a variety of special automotive tools. One of their Torx bit sets is described as being made with a specific 6000 series alloy (i.e., vanadium chrome). The "NorthernTool.com" catalog has some of these tools listed as items: 154090,91,92,93,94 but do not show them as made in USA. Also, "Toolguy.com" has a 11pc T&E Screwdriver Set shown as made in USA for sale.

Does anyone have more information or experience using these tools?

Thanks,

Chris W.

I was the export sales manager for Armstrong Bros. Tool Co. of Chicago and now have my own business selling tools.

I have never heard of T&E as a tool brand. Look at the box again. By law, it has to state the country where the tool was made.

There are 3 companies in Chicago who make sockets:
Armstrong (now Danaher), S-K (now Facom) and Indestro/Durochrome (now out of business.)

It is quite possible that your tool was made in Asia for a Chicago based marketing company.
