In the old days with no money, lay tire on ground and run over with vehicle. Also use bumper jack, if you can find one, and put base on side of tire and jack up car on it. Nowadays I use old tire machine bought for 25 dollars.

If you have a wood splitter, lay well picked chunk of wood cross ways on the wedge and run the ram plate as close a possible to the rim on the other side to pinch the tire.

It's to late now, but I could have saved you alot of hastle. Just lay it on its side and dump a cup of gas around the rim and wait 20 min.

Used this trick in the military on old 5 tons that were older than dirt. If I recal correct only a very few had to be soaked for a day / several times before it busted loose. We always reused the tires and I personaly never seen a tire fail.

just throw the hole thing on the brush pile and set it on fire. Do this at nite as burning rubber don't smoke at nite.

Modern car rims have a ridge inside the bead to hold the bead better and that makes them really hard to break the bead loose. Far harder than ag rims that are smooth. The tires can act like they are glue on. The $10 or 12 that the tire shop charges is often worth that price of admission to watch it done rather than breaking tools and fingers failing to break them loose yourself. And then beading such rims is a pain too.

Before I would sweat it out too much and spend too much time at it I would take it to a tire shop and pay the 5 or 10 bucks and let them use the power tools made to do the job. Of course that would be before you cut the bead, now it would be a lot of work and cost more. Try laying it on the ground and pour diesel around the bead. If it don't give in 15 minutes then lite the diesel on fire and give that a few minutes. Should come lose then. A slide hammer works good also. Oh and don't let the wife catch you playing with fire, they just don't understand.

Hi driftwood,

If heat will loosen it up as Joe in MN says, a heavy duty heat gun might generate enough heat to do the job. Probably slower than a torch, but very little chance of catching it on fire that way (more to prevent the putrid smell of burning rubber than because some flames would be any problem.)

All the best, Stan

ALL these guys are making it work for you --- just heat it up with a torch of some kind ... it will come off easy after you heat it up --- but don't get it so hot it will burn .... now see --- that's easy .....

I use an old leaf spring about 2ft long (better if it's from a pickup truck) with a glove hold one end and drive the side of it between the rim and the bead. You can get about 1/3 of the way around before you have to reset it. The rounded edges of the spring will not damage the tire or the rim. Make sure to use a BFH. Good Luck

Often a shot of PB Blaster or other penetrant and 10 minutes wait will loosen em right up.Or use a hatchet/axe as a wedge and smack it with a BFH :)

I'm certainly no tire expert, but what I've done in similiar cases was to cut through the bead and then pry one of the ends away from the rim which lets you get the rest of the bead loose. A cold chisel might work or a Dremel type tool with a cutting disk.

lay the rim on the ground and place a thick wide board on the tire just up to the rim and then drive on just the board with a tractor or truck and that should break it loose.

I think if it was mine I'd use a Dremel tool & cutoff wheel to cut the bead being careful not to damage the rim. Then pry it off starting at the cut with a screwdriver (did I say that?!) or other appropriate tool.
