jhill,
by all means, rebuild the 028. The 028 is one of the best saws that Stihl has or ever will build. The 026, I probably would not my waste my time on, they are good saws, but not as half as good as the 028. The 026 with 130# of compression is decent enough to run and make good power. The absolute minumum compression on a 2 cycle engine to get optimum power is 90# by the third pull. They will start and run with less, but they will not have much power.

I have to disagree with them not being worth the trouble to rebuild. The 028s are great saws. If you're not going to rebuild them, send them to me!

Well 110 is about the bottom on them. What kind of compression gauge did you use? They do make a difference in the readings sometimes. Rering them even put new pistons in them. They are cheap to work on. Search for a site called aboristsite.com There is alot of grea tinfo there. Search for Bailey"s.com they are a supply house for loggers. They sell after market piston kits for the saws you listed. I think about 30 to 35 plus shipping. If the saws are in good shape they are wworth rebuilding. Bob

110 is about as low as a chainsaw can reasonably function. Since they are the 020's, its probably not worth the time and effort. Id be tempted to run the 028 as long as she will go, because it is probably scored. What do you use for oil? I work at a Stihl service and sales shop so im used to at least the basic knoledge of Stihls. Sometimes running them rich is just as bad as lean because carbon builds up on the piston dome and comes off inchunks and can score cylinders
