mine does this occasionly as well. all i do is remove float valve until water level drops to opening. reinstall float valve and she seems to work fine until it happens again. usually it happens a couple times a year. it happens because of short bursts of water use and the float bounces from water surge. they tell me it is waterlogging. if not remedied it will foul out or burn out points.hope this helps. later, Breeze.

With the pump off, and faucet opened add air to the tank to bring the empty air pressure to the dame point as the turn on pressure of the pump. If the bladder in the tnak is ruptured you will get air out of the open faucet, in which case you need to replace the bladder or tank. If you don';t have enough air in it, the pump will quick cycle like you have described, and if too much air pressure, the system will briefly run out of water, and "slam" or surge when the pump starts.

As far as I know, you can never have too much air. I shut off the pump, turn on a valve and start filling the tank with air when the pressure drops. I want myh tank half filled with air when it is at the top pressure.

Ric
Id add some air, it will take quiet a bit not just a few pounds. Its not the pounds of pressure but the volume of air in the tank that makes it work properly.

good luck
Randy

Your tank is waterlogged. You need to add some air. What i always do is unhook the tank from the pump and drain all the water from it. then your good as new. Unless you have one of those tanks that has a bladder or air compartment in the top, if so then the bladder might be ruptured. If it has a bladder i think its supposed to have a valve like on a tire to add air, or a plug to add a valve stem at least.

Good luck
Randy

Systems work on compressing bubble of air,or in newer, rubber air bladder.Air can be compressed,Water cannot. So with too little or no air in your tank, the pump is trying to compress water, which can't be done, resulting in the pump cutting out almost instantly. As said either the air has left thru a small leak,or the air bladder has busted, allowing the tank to fill full or nearly so w/water.Either way, hole or ruptured,I suspect a new tank may be in your near future :(
