Has anyone every bought any factory reconditioned tools? I got this website from another forum reconditionedsales.com and they sell factory reconditioned Hitachi power tools. I have a Hitachi 18 volt cordless drill, and really like it. This website is the authorized Hitachi reconditioning sales site, and they say you get the new warranty with the tool, but you save over 50%. Looks like a great deal...or is it?

Thanks for any opinions!!!

Had good luck with most reconditioned except for a Porter Cable sabre saw that came from a Porter Cable rebuilding unit in Tennessee. The saw looked like it was dragged from a muddy pit and never really cleaned very well. The blade support roller was rusted and locked solid against rotation and the grease in the gearbox was dry and hard. I ended up diassembling it replacing the brushes and cleaning and applying new grease to the gears and replacing the variable speed control.

I used to buy all kinds of reconditioned sears power tools, and they all seemed to work great. I bought a pair of Poulan reconditioned chain saws 4 years ago and they were bombproof for me. My shops all use "recon" Ingersol air tools- we send the "cores" back and they refurb 'em with new "expendables"- It's the only way i can keep guns in the hands of my techs without going broke!

I've had good luck with rebuilt tools as long as they were a good solid brand to begin with.

Craftsman is not a good one to buy rebuilt or have rebuilt because their tools are not that good to begin with.Jim

Happy with recon. Ryobi grinder. Only quirk was 5 years later switch fried and Ryobi was clueless about this model. Found new switch in a hardware store. Is it a Ryobi?

I have a bunch of recon Ridgid tools, 2 18 volt cordless drills, chop saw, 2 nailers. They work great and have had no issues so far. I never tought about them getting more attention than other tools, but it makes sense.

Better than new! All attention is directed to that one specific tool. That's better than a bunch of tools comming down an assembly line. You will not be able to tell the difference by looking at the tool. They all look new.

Agree w/"Reply".In mass production/marketing there are bound to be occaisional bad "bits"& errors in assy. When returned as"defective",tool is gone thru and"made right" before resale, sometimes even upgraded to new"in production"specs.
By the by,same thing happens in consumer electronics(LCD/Plasma/Big screen TVs,Computers and peripherals,kitchen/household appliances.Often worth the search.
Take the ubitiquos Kirby Vacuum a few yrs back,$1000+ in your home...repo/demos reconditioned could be had for$300-400 w/full warranty.
